Scotland is sitting on a potential cancer ‘timebomb’, according to a leading charity. Macmillan Cancer Support has today issued a stark warning that cancer cannot become the ‘forgotten ‘C’’ during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The charity are calling upon the Scottish Government to use Health Secretary Jeane Freeman’s statement next week to set out clear plans for the restoration of cancer care.
Tens of thousands of people have had their care disrupted due to the virus outbreak. Macmillan say clarification is required over how cancer patients will have access to timely diagnosis and treatment, with surge capacity to catch up on the backlog of care coronavirus has caused.
