care home staff have been tested for coronavirus, according to new figures. The huge number of deaths from the deadly bug in care homes sparked plans to introduce tests.
Health Secretary, Jeane Freeman announced the move on May 18. 11,192 tests were carried out in Scotland by June 7, statistics from the Scottish Government show.
There were 53,500 care home workers across the country in 2019, according to a report from the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC).
The new figures come just hours after Scottish Conservatives leader Jackson Carlaw pressed the First Minister on the scheme. He called for a hard deadline to be set for the first tests to be carried out.
