Scots custody officers have warned they will be a 'taxi service' for released cons under new plans.Under the scheme, the officers would become unofficial drivers for prisoners freed due to the coronavirus crisis.
They would take them from jail to their homes, train stations or bus stops, the Scottish Sun has reported. GEOAmey run the contract and have sparked fears that, by telling staff to use unmarked vehicles and ditch their uniforms, the workers could be attacked.A source told the paper: “The concern is that officers have to take the prisoners on their own.“Just because they’ve been let out of jail or bailed from court doesn’t mean they won’t be violent.“They would be in the motor with a single member of staff.
