The son of a 98-year-old woman who beat the coronavirus thought he would never see her again when she was whisked to hospital.

Daphne Shah stunned doctors by surviving a nasty case of Covid-19 to return home to her beloved cocker spaniels. The 98-year-old, who turns 99 in July, was taken to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee with a high temperature, persistent cough and breathing difficulties.

As the ambulance carrying her left on Thursday, her son Wes feared he had seen the last of his mother. The following day Daphne was diagnosed with Covid-19.
