The Queen has cancelled her annual birthday gun salute for the first time in history due to the coronavirus pandemic, a palace source has confirmed.
Her Majesty will turn 94 on Tuesday, and for the first time in her 68-year reign, the Queen has cancelled her annual gun salute celebration.
A Palace Source said the Queen was keen that "no special measures" were put in place to allow the gun salute to go ahead as she does "not feel it appropriate in the current circumstances".
It is likely the Queen is referring to the coronavirus pandemic, which has killed over 13,000 in the UK alone. A Palace Source said: "Her Majesty was keen that no special measures were put in place to allow gun salutes as she did not feel it appropriate in the current
