Indian movie star Soumitra Chatterjee has died of coronavirus-related health complications aged 85.After suffering symptoms of the virus, the actor tested positive for Covid-19, and was subsequently admitted to a hospital in Kolkata city on October 6.The film legend died on Monday morning.Starring in over 300 films over the course of his career, Chatterjee was also an acclaimed playwright and poet, as well as regularly appearing in theatre productions.
A testament to his legacy in the film industry, Chatterjee had received the esteemed Dada Saheb Phalke Award in 2012 and was also handed France's Legion of Honour in 2018.His death was announced in a statement on Sunday, which read: "We declare with heavy heart that Shri Soumitra.
