PHILADELPHIA - A Philadelphia man is fighting for his life after police say he was caught in a barrage of gunfire as he was coming home from work. The shooting happened just after 12:30 a.m. Friday on the 1800 block of North Marston Street in North Philadelphia. Officers responded to reports of a shooting and found a 24-year-old man inside a home and laying on the floor with gunshot wounds to his chest, arms, legs, torso, and back. Responding officers rushed the victim to Temple University Hospital where he was listed in critical condition. MORE HEADLINES: Philadelphia police say over 35 shots were fired from at least two different guns. The victim’s home was struck at least 15 times by gunfire, according to police.

Local teacher accused of posing as teenage girl online to solicit explicit images from girls

LOWER MERION, Pa. - A Pennsylvania high school teacher is facing charges after investigators say he posed as a teenage girl on a social media app to solicit naked pictures from young girls. Jeremy Schobel, 32, was arrested Wednesday when federal authorities acting on a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children searched his home in Philadelphia. A criminal complaint alleges that Schobel, an English teacher at Harriton High School in Lower Merion, posed as a 17-year-old girl on a social media app called Yubo. Schobel, according to a court documents, was allegedly using the app to find a girl-to-girl relationship and redirecting conversations to Snapchat where he would ask for explicit images. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESYubo closed two accounts that investigators said were linked to Schobel and contacted the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children about a user "grooming minors" online. Authorities say after being arrest Schobel admitted to creating both fake profiles and posing as an underage girl to solicit explicit images of teenage girls. He also admitted to communicating with girls between 16-years-old and 18-years-old for years prior to his recent arrest, according to a criminal complaint. In a letter to families, the Lower Merion School District said they are not aware of any inappropriate interactions between Schobel and students.

WASHINGTON - The family of Hae Min Lee is calling on Maryland's Supreme Court to hear their appeal, saying that while a lower court decision to reinstate the conviction of Adnan Syed in March remedied what they saw as a violation of victim’s rights, there’s one aspect they still feel needs to be addressed. The attorney for Lee’s family filed a Petition for Writ of Certiorari in the Supreme Court Thursday. In the petition, Young Lee, the brother of Hae Min Lee, asks the state Supreme Court to rule that victims of crime in Maryland have a right to be heard and challenge evidence in hearings that could vacate convictions, such as the one that reversed the verdict in Syed's 20-year-old case. PHILADELPHIA - Police in Bucks County are warning about a phone scam where they say the caller poses as a police officer. Bensalem Township police say a teenage employee at a local business on Bensalem Boulevard received a call from someone claiming to be a police lieutenant. The caller told the employee that counterfeit money had been used at the business and that the business would have to pay a fine.The caller then told the teen that she had to take money out of the register and go to the ATM to take out more money for the bogus fine.MORE HEADLINES: Police say the teen drove to a nearby ATM in an attempt to withdraw money. The Philadelphia Police Department said there have been more than 9,000 vehicle thefts so far this year and half of those have involved Kias and Hyundais. "Obviously this is a major concern for us, the stolen cars out there lead to a lot of things, some are just joyriding others are used in crimes," Chief Walter Smith said.To prevent the growing trend, 21 districts from around Philadelphia came together Wednesday to hand out vehicle locks to Kia and Hyundai owners. The device - commonly called ‘The Club’ - goes onto the steering wheel and is locked with a key. Authorities say the lock makes the car impossible for criminals to drive, and they hope it's visual presence is enough to prevent car thefts from happening."We found that people are multiple-time victims of this unfortunately," Captain Marques Newsome from the Philadelphia Police Department's 15th District said. Data from the department obtained by FOX 29's Kelly Rule shows that there have been over 5,600 Kias and Hyundais stolen in Philadelphia this year, up from just 337 at this time in 2022.In an effort to combat car thefts, Philadelphia police are giving away wheel lock to residents with Hyundais and Kias.In a month-by-month breakdown, May saw the highest number of cars stolen so far this year.
