One of the country’s biggest fruit farms is facing its biggest ever recruitment challenge due to the COVID-19 outbreak.Stewarts of Tayside farms over 4000 acres growing swede, strawberries raspberries, cereals and packing stewpacks for all the major multiples across the UK.But the Carse of Gowrie firm is now planning how it will harvest all its crops at Tofthill Farm in peak season when it usually employs as many as 800 workers.Owner Sheena Stewart, who runs the family business with husband Will, explained how they were facing a major recruitment issue due to travel restrictions caused by the COVID-19 outbreak.Hundreds of Eastern Europeans would normally arrive in Perthshire for berry-picking season, but that will not be the case this year.
