Woman shoots man armed with crowbar during road rage incident in Philadelphia: police

PHILADELPHIA - Authorities say a licensed gun owner shot and wounded a man who smashed her car window with a crowbar during a rush hour road rage confrontation in Philadelphia. Officers from the Philadelphia Police Department were called to the 2200 block of Market Street just before 5:30 p.m. Wednesday for repots of a shooting victim. Police found a 22-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound to the groin and drove him to Penn Presbyterian Hospital where he was admitted in critical condition. Chief Inspector Scott Small told reporters that the shooting happened about eight blocks away during a road rage incident at the intersection of 30th and Chestnut streets. NORTH WILDWOOD, N.J. - New Jersey environmental officials will allow a shore town to carry out emergency repairs to its badly eroded beachfront, even as they continue a years-long fight with city officials over how best to protect the popular Jersey Shore resort's fragile coastline.On Wednesday, the state Department of Environmental Protection told North Wildwood it could reshape three blocks worth of dunes and repair public access points to a condition that they can be safely used in time for the approaching Memorial Day holiday weekend.The move marked a turning point in a long-running dispute between the city and the state over how to ensure that the beach is wide enough for recreation and to ensure that dunes are sturdy enough to protect the city from coastal storms.North Wildwood and its surrounding coastal neighbors have not received the periodic beach replenishment projects that most of the rest of the Jersey Shore has been getting for decades, due in part to the difficulty of getting approval from property owners.As a result, it has experienced serious erosion over the last decade, and says it needs to take immediate emergency steps including shoring up dunes and building another steel sea wall to complement one it already built.The state has repeatedly denied permission for such work, saying it could actually worsen erosion due to the scouring effect of waves carrying sand along hard barriers like sea walls. It says the city should continue to rely on trucking in sand from mainland quarries.

CHESTER, Pa. - Two teenagers are facing charges after police say they carjacked someone in Delaware and sped away from officers during an attempted traffic stop before being arrested in Pennsylvania. Officers from the Wilmington Police Department were called to the 600 block of Geddes Street around 7 p.m. Tuesday for reports of a carjacking, according to investigators. Police located the stolen vehicle a short time later, but it sped away from officers when they tried to conduct a vehicle stop. The car was recovered later that night in Chester, Pennsylvania – about a 20-minute drive from Wilmington. Police say a 14-year-old and 17-year-old were both taken into custody after first trying to run away from City of Chester police officers. Both teens are being charged with first-degree robbery, among other charges, according to authorities.

Police: Man shot in neck near ATM machine in Oxford Circle

PHILADELPHIA - A man is fighting for his life after police say he was shot near an ATM machine in Philadelphia's Oxford Circle neighborhood. Officers from the Philadelphia Police Department were called to the 6500 block of Roosevelt Boulevard around 9 p.m. for reports of a shooting. Chief Inspector Scott Small reports the victim, a man, was near an ATM machine when someone shot him in the neck. He was taken to a nearby hospital where police say he is in critical condition.
