PHILADELPHIA - A double shooting in Kensington prompted an increased response from law enforcement when police say the suspect fled into a nearby apartment.The barricade situation unfolded when police found two victims suffering from gunshot wounds on the 2800 block of Kensington Avenue around 1:40 p.m.A 37-year-old man was shot three times, including the cheek. JERSEY CITY, N.J. - A New Jersey man is being charged in the murder of a missing Camden County woman whose body was found on the side of a highway near Jersey City. The Hudson County Prosecutor's Office announced several charges against 35-year-old Gregory Mallard in the death of missing Lindenwold woman 32-year-old Norelis Mendoza. The murder, according to prosecutors, is being investigated as an act of domestic violence. Mendoza was reported missing Sunday after she was last seen in Jersey City the previous day.

PHILADELPHIA - A Philadelphia music teacher is keeping her students on beat, despite losing all of her instruments in devastating fire that gutted the entire school building.The Mother of Consolation Parish School in Chestnut Hill went up in flames on Mar. 12, and took with it Elise Malizia's 30-year collection of instruments, CDs and music books. "I lost everything in my classroom – everything," Maliia told FOX 29's Joyce Evans. Despite the loss, she continued to help her students get ready for their spring concert at a chapel on the campus of Chestnut Hill College. "It's such a beautiful thing to be in music education and see the growth and development still happening after a fire, and happening so beautifully," Malizia said. Two months after the fire, there is still no timetable for when the school will be rebuilt.

Canadian tourist has been shot and killed in a Mexican beach town just days after a tourist from Argentina was hacked to death in a machete attack in the same Pacific coast resort area.Prosecutors in the Mexican state of Oaxaca say the Canadian man was found dead in a car with a bullet wound in the town of Puerto Escondido, a relaxed beach town popular with surfers, on Monday. No details were revealed regarding the specific circumstances of the man’s death, but he was identified as 27-year-old Víctor Masson.Masson’s death comes three days after a tourist from Argentina was killed in a machete attack in the state of Oaxaca, generally considered one of the safer states in Mexico, roughly 60 miles west of Puerto Escondido in the hamlet of La Isla.The Argentine was identified as Benjamin Gamond and Mexican police say he was one of three tourists from Argentina attacked by a man wielding a machete on Friday and that he died in the hospital after the attack. NORTH WILDWOOD, N.J. - New Jersey environmental officials will allow a shore town to carry out emergency repairs to its badly eroded beachfront, even as they continue a years-long fight with city officials over how best to protect the popular Jersey Shore resort's fragile coastline.On Wednesday, the state Department of Environmental Protection told North Wildwood it could reshape three blocks worth of dunes and repair public access points to a condition that they can be safely used in time for the approaching Memorial Day holiday weekend.The move marked a turning point in a long-running dispute between the city and the state over how to ensure that the beach is wide enough for recreation and to ensure that dunes are sturdy enough to protect the city from coastal storms.North Wildwood and its surrounding coastal neighbors have not received the periodic beach replenishment projects that most of the rest of the Jersey Shore has been getting for decades, due in part to the difficulty of getting approval from property owners.As a result, it has experienced serious erosion over the last decade, and says it needs to take immediate emergency steps including shoring up dunes and building another steel sea wall to complement one it already built.The state has repeatedly denied permission for such work, saying it could actually worsen erosion due to the scouring effect of waves carrying sand along hard barriers like sea walls. It says the city should continue to rely on trucking in sand from mainland quarries.

PHILADELPHIA - Authorities say a food delivery driver was gunned down while sitting inside his car after dropping off food to a property near Temple's North Philadelphia campus. Officers from the Philadelphia Police Department were called to the 1700 block of North Gratz Street for reports of multiple gunshot. Police found a 48-year-old man in the driver's seat of a white Honda suffering from a gunshot wound to the stomach.

LEVITTOWN, Pa. - A somber celebration was held Thursday to recognize the completion of a sidewalk project that was spearheaded by a Pennsylvania mother whose son was fatally struck by a car over a decade ago. John Rearick was killed in July 2012 while walking along a stretch of New Falls Road in Levittown. No sidewalk and overgrown trees forced John to walk in the median where he was hit from behind. Since John's death, his heartbroken mother Sharon Rearick has spent tireless hours culling support for a sidewalk project, so people can safely walk next to traffic on New Falls Road. "To make it okay in my brain and my heart, I had to do something," Sharon said.

ALLOWY, N.J. - Over a dozen structures are being threatened by an uncontained wildfire burning in Salem County, according to officials. The New Jersey Forrest Fire Service on Thursday said crews are battling the blaze at the former Holly Hills Golf Course in Alloway. The fire is currently threatening 15 structures and has consumed 10 acres, according to the service. Firefighters are conducting containment lines and burnout operations to contain and slow the fire's progression, officials said. No roads have been closed and no one has been evacuated.

CRANSTON, R.I. - A Rhode Island city council member and former chair of the local Republican Party is facing calls to resign after he was found sleeping in his car with a crack pipe in hand.According to local reports, a passerby in Cranston, Rhode Island, saw a man possibly choking in his car Monday and alerted an officer nearby. When police arrived, "he appeared to be sleeping or unconscious while having difficulty breathing/choking," arrest reports state.The responding officer had to shake the man to wake him up, then noticed a glass pipe and a lighter in his hand.
