Officials: 3-year-old dies of self-inflicted gunshot wound in Trenton

PHILADELPHIA - Prosecutors in Mercer County say a 3-year-old died Wednesday of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.Authorities were called to a property on Princeton Avenue in Trenton for reports of a child suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The 3-year-old was pronounced dead at Capital Health Hospital, according to the Mercer County Prosecutor's Office. A firearm was recovered at the scene and authorities say there is no threat to the public. No arrests were immediately reported, but authorities have launched an investigation to discover how the child got their hands on a firearm.Trenton Mayor Reed Gusciora called the child's death a "horrific act" that "calls to mind the senselessness of gun deaths and innocent children in harm’s way."

Rideshare driver shot in head while taking passenger through North Philadelphia, police say

PHILADELPHIA - A rideshare driver on route taking a passenger through North Philadelphia was shot and severely injured on Wednesday night, authorities say. According to police, the incident happened just after 11 p.m. in the area of Broad Street and Lehigh Avenue. Officials say when officers arrived on scene, they saw the vehicle, a Honda CRV, that jumped the curb and struck a utility pole. A 34-year-old driver was slumped in the driver's seat with a gunshot wound to the head, law enforcement officials said. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESThe driver was transported to Temple University Hospital, where he is in extremely critical condition, according to authorities. Chief Inspector Scott Small told FOX 29 the rideshare driver was going westbound on the 1300 block of Lehigh Avenue after picking up an 18-year-old female passenger a few blocks away. Officials say the passenger told detectives she heard about five or six gunshots before the vehicle's windshield broke, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle, jump the curb and crash. According to investigators, at least one bullet went through the driver's rear headrest. Small says the passenger is extremely lucky she was not also struck by gunfire. Police say six spent shell casings were discovered on scene. Investigators do not know if the rideshare driver was targeted or was struck by stray gunfire, Small says. Rifles, handguns discovered in stolen car that crashed on Trenton highway after police chase

TRENTON, N.J. - A police pursuit that ended in a crash on a New Jersey highway led to the discovery of guns, officials say. CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - A stroll along the Texas coastline may provide you with sights of sargassum seaweed, but on rare occasions, beachgoers have stumbled upon cargo from a World War II-era shipwreck that continues to occasionally float ashore.Visitors at Mustang Island State Park, outside of Corpus Christi, Texas, are the latest to discover one of the unassuming bales that were washed ashore by the currents of the Gulf of Mexico.A park ranger took to the site’s social media to show off the discovery and to point out that there is always the chance of something more substantial than a seashell or a patch of seaweed on the sand.According to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, it is running off the assumption the bale is tied to similar discoveries over the years across the Gulf Coast as well as Central and South America.March 30, 2022: A mass of rubber washed ashore South Texas (Padre Island National Seashore / FOX Weather) Jace Tunnell, a reserve director at the University of Texas’s Marine Science Institute, has studied several of these sightings and previously tied occurrences to an old shipwreck off of Brazil."These are folded rubber mats that have been put together and then wrapped again with a big one. ESCONDIDO, Calif. - An 8-week-old kitten is on the mend after the tiny animal got its head stuck in the frame of a truck in California. The driver of the truck was on the road on Monday and heard "meowing sounds" at a stop sign, according to the San Diego Humane Society. 2 women injured by gunfire that erupted after fight in Logan, police say
