a staggered start for some secondaries from January 4, union bosses say the move doesn't go far enough, particularly in light of the new variant of Covid, which it's said could be 70% more contagious.

They are calling for online learning for all pupils for the first two weeks of term, with only key worker and vulnerable children allowed in schools.And during that two-week period they want a mass testing system set up in schools - by public health directors, not themselves - and for education staff to begin being vaccinated.
