Ten deaths, 679 new Covid-19 cases in Northern Ireland

There have been ten further Covid-19 linked deaths in Northern Ireland and 679 new cases of the virus, the Department of Health has announced.

The death toll recorded by the department now stands at 740. There are 418 confirmed Covid-19 patients in hospital, with 50 in ICU, 42 of whom are on ventilators.

There are currently 418 patients with the virus being treated in hospital, with 50 in intensive care. The occupancy rate at hospitals has been reported at 101%.

There are also 120 active outbreaks at care homes in the region. The 7-day infection rate per 100,000 for Northern Ireland is 239.0 Mid Ulster is the council area with the highest figure, with its 7-day rate 352.5.
