The Queen has praised the news industry for providing an “important public service” during the Covid-19 pandemic. Her Royal Highness, 94, said news reports have provided “a lifeline for the elderly and vulnerable to the outside world”.
The Queen, who spoke out at the start of Journalism Matters week, described media-led fundraising and volunteering drives as being “invaluable”.
She said: “Having trusted reliable sources of information, particularly at a time when there are so many sources competing for our attention, is vital.” The campaign by the News Media Association on behalf of publishers celebrates journalism as a force for good in society.
