There in cardboard: Fans support German club through cut-outs amid virus

German football club Borussia Mönchengladbach have launched a campaign, in which fans can pay to have a cardboard cut-out of themselves attend games in their absence, with funds going toward local causes hit by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The 'Stay at home. Be in the Stands' campaign allows fans to have a ‘Doppelgänger’ sit in their stead at games, should they go ahead behind closed doors.

The campaign has been ongoing for over a week, and more than 5,000 such cut-outs have been made so far. Funds raised from the non-profit initiative will go toward local causes that have been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.
