A third council in England is set to defy government advice to reopen schools next month - saying that the risk to pupils and staff is "unacceptable".
Bury in Greater Manchester has now joined Hartlepool and Liverpool as they reject plans to allow teachers and children return to the classroom on June 1.
The council has now written to all headteachers in the area outlining the reasons behind their decision. The statement claimed the reopening classrooms would “pose an unacceptable risk to pupils, staff and communities of vulnerable people.” Labour councillor for Bury Tamoor Tariq said on Twitter that the government's position is "ill advised and not one we can follow".
