This is what's causing large plumes of smoke across Manchester tonight

Firefighters are continuing to tackle a moorland fire which is causing large plumes of smoke to drift across Manchester. The fire broke out at Rakes Moss on the A628 Crowden to Glossop through the Woodhead Pass just after 1pm today.

It is causing a large plume of smoke to drift into surrounding areas, particularly into Tameside. Residents in Stalybridge are being asked to keep their windows and doors shut.

Several people have also reported spotting large plumes of smoke in other parts of our region on Twitter, including in south Manchester, east Manchester and the city centre.
