A man has been convicted of stabbing two people after telling police he "woke up that morning and wanted to kill someone". Jamie Austin, 31, a hospital porter from Derby, knifed two strangers outside a branch of Sainsbury's not far from the city centre.
CCTV footage was played at Derby Crown Court showing Austin lunging towards two 16-year-olds by a cashpoint machine. Moments later, he approached the next ATM user and stabbed them once in the back before walking away.
Austin, who lived close to the Boyer Street branch, then entered the shop brandishing the knife and a bottle of vodka. The dad-of-one walked out again and stabbed his second victim who was getting onto a mobility scooter.
