NFL legend Tom Dempsey has passed away aged 73 after contracting novel coronavirus, the New Orleans Saints have confirmed. Dempsey, born without toes on his right foot and fingers on his right hand, defied the odds to become one of the greatest NFL kickers of all-time.
He etched his name in the record books with a booming 63-yard game-winning field goal against the Detroit Lions in 1970, which was the longest kick ever made in the sport until being matched in 1998 then beaten by a yard in 2013.
The popular kicker from Milwaukee, Wisconsin had been battling Alzheimer's disease and dementia since 2012 but contracted coronavirus on March 25.
