FALLS TOWNSHIP, Pa. - Police say multiple people were injured during an incident at a Bucks County playground late Tuesday night before gunfire erupted in a nearby neighborhood. Officers in Falls Township responded to Penn Valley Elementary School on the 100 block of North Turn Lane around 11:45 p.m. for reports of a disturbance.According to investigators, two groups had met on the school grounds for a fight which ended with four people being stabbed.

PHILADELPHIA - The Philadelphia Police Department is investigating a shooting where an attempted robbery victim gained control over a suspect and shot him. According to police, the attempted robbery occurred on the 8000 block of Rodney Street in a driveway. Authorities say a man was unloading groceries from his car when a suspect approached him, saying, "This is a robbery," and pointed a gun at him. After a struggle over the weapon ensued, the victim was able to gain control of the gun, which discharged one time, grazing the suspect in the abdomen, according to police. Officials say the suspect was transported to Albert Einstein Medical Center, where he was placed in stable condition. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESPolice say the victim sustained an injury from a bite on his hand, but he did no seek medical treatment. According to authorities, police recovered the weapon used and the suspect is under arrest. FOX 29's Kelly Rule captured this image which appears to show the victim's groceries and the suspect's gun used in the incident still on the front seat of the victim's car. This is a developing story.

Kevin O'Connell has been charged in connection with two carjackings where he is accused of using a syringe to threaten victims.  BUCKS COUNTY, Pa - The Bucks County District Attorney's Office has filed charges against a man who is accused of using a syringe to threaten people before stealing their cars. According to authorities, Kevin O'Connell threatened to inject victims with a syringe in two carjackings. The most recent carjacking, which left an 83-year-old woman hospitalized, was on Friday morning in Bristol Borough, according to the DA's Office. Police responded to the 200 block of Commerce Circle around 10:00 a.m.

PHILADELPHIA - A shooting investigation in North Philadelphia took an unexpected turn Tuesday morning when its victim ended up in police custody.Police say an 18-year-old was driving on 22nd Street when his vehicle was struck by two bullets, one hitting him in the lower back around midnight.He was found near the vehicle about a half mile away and transported to a local hospital, where he is said to be in police custody.Police say the gunshot victim's vehicle, a Nissan Rogue SUV, was reported stolen a month ago.MORE HEADLINES:A 19-year-old man who was also in the stolen vehicle at the time of the shooting has been taken into custody.He was found armed with semiautomatic gun with an extended magazine and a backpack filled with narcotics, according to police.No formal charges have been announced, but police say both are "prisoners" at this time.

PHILADELPHIA - As criminals continue to target catalytic converters in cities and suburbs across the country, mechanics who see the costly damage first-hand shared what models are most commonly picked on. Catalytic converters are part of a vehicle's exhaust system that helps filter out pollutants. They're found on the underside of the car and can be removed within minutes with a metal-cutting tool. Criminals target catalytic converters because they contain expensive precious metals like rhodium, platinum and palladium. Thieves can expect to get anywhere from $50 to $300 if they sell the converters to scrapyards, which then sell them to recycling facilities to reclaim the precious metals inside.Police in a Philadelphia suburb warned residents of catalytic converter thefts.

PHILADELPHIA - School officials in Philadelphia believe the district won't be impacted by a national shortage of teachers due to strong employment numbers. The School District of Philadelphia told FOX 29 it is 97% staffed for the upcoming school year and still actively recruiting hiring non-instructional roles. Data provided by the district showed a staffing percentage about 95% for positions including principal, vice principal and teacher. Counselors, according to the district, are at 94% hiring capacity and special education assists are at 76.8% MORE LOCAL HEADLINES"Despite shortages in teacher market, we are over 97% staffed for the school year and off to a strong start," a district spokesperson said. "For non-instructional roles, we are still actively recruiting and hiring for roles and show larger needs for certain school-based non-instructional roles." Meanwhile, parents of students in understaffed districts believe the teacher shortage could stunt the education of students still catching up from the COVID-19 pandemic. "My youngest one, he had to get set back a year because being on the computers, he didn’t grab on to it like he should," Fard Udin Muhammad said.

PHILADELPHIA - As students prepare to head back to the classrooms, parents and educators worry about school safety amid Philadelphia's worsening gun violence crisis. Mayor Jim Kenney joined school district leaders on Monday for an update on back-to-school safety and programs for the 2022-2023 academic year. Chief of School Safety Kevin Bethel said the district's plan will rely on a mix of school security officers, city police and parents to keep students safe. Philadelphia's public school system is one of the largest in the country, responsible for approximately 114,000 students. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESThe district reported 47 public and charter school students were killed, mostly from gun violence. Bethel said the district will support "safe corridors" to and from eight schools in the city's most troubled neighborhoods, including Bartram High School where a student was slain last winter.Part of the safety plan includes using police dogs to sniff-out guns hidden outside of school building. PHILADELPHIA - Several parents of Philadelphia school children argued spoke out against the district's mask guidance for the upcoming school year during a public meeting. The School District recently announced that students returning to the classroom this fall will be required to mask for the first 10 days of the school year. After the 10-day period designed to limit a potential COVID outbreak in schools, masks will become optional for students unless certain criteria calls for the mandate to be reimposed. Masks could return during the school year if community spread is high, a classroom experiences an outbreak, or upon returning from an extended break. RELATED COVERAGEStudents and staff in the pre-k head start program are required to wear masks all year long. The district hosted a public meeting on Thursday afternoon and heard from several parents who were not happy with the updated guidance. "This is an equity issued," Rahul Ganesan argued.
