Authorities said three women helped an accused child killer evade police. NEWARK, Calif. - Three women are accused of helping the alleged killer of 8-year-old Sophia Mason evade police for six months.Lieutenant Joe Perez with the Merced Police Department said the alleged killer, Dhante Jackson, 34, was able to avoid capture for so long with the women's help.Authorities said 33-year-old Mayra Gutierrez Gonzalez, of Newark; 42-year-old Laronna Larkins, of Merced; and 40-year-old Daberka Thompson, of San Jose; provided Jackson with transportation, shelter, and money while he was on the run.Dhante Jackson is accused of killing 8-year-old Sophia Mason.

PHILADELPHIA - Local school districts are turning to dogs as their newest strategy to help students and staff overcome mental and emotional struggles and stress in school.Puppies and full-grown dogs were in training with their owners at the Fallsington Elementary School in Levittown on Monday morning after the Pennsbury School District says their most recent goal is to have a therapy dog in every school in the district after recent statistics show that interacting with dogs can benefit people's mental health."We do mental health and suicide prevention programs and dogs are involved in every one of our programs," said Tricia Baker, Director of Attitudes in Reverse therapy dog training. Baker and her daughter, Katelyn, work with dogs to get them trained to provide a sense of calm and comfort in a counseling session or an emergency. The mother-daughter duo spends dozens of hours each week traveling to various schools to teach a 40-week program with dog owners and their pets."It's nice to take the knowledge we had teaching about dogs and turning it in to something even more," said Katelyn Baker. Nine administrators and teachers of the Pennsbury School District have volunteered for the 11-month intensive training course to reach their goal of having a dog assigned to each school in the district.

PHILADELPHIA - A Philadelphia family is grieving the loss of a father of seven who authorities say was gunned down outside his home in what police believe was a case of mistaken identity. Investigators say 37-year-old Daniel Ruley was found dead on his front lawn of his family's home on the 100 block of Washington Lane in Germantown late Sunday night. It's believed that Ruley, a 13-year SEPTA employee, had just parked his car after dropping his wife off outside the home when a shooter exited a dark-colored vehicle and fired over a dozen times.A witness told police Ruley was ‘ambushed and executed’ by someone laying in wait, Captain Anthony Ginaldi relayed to reports at the scene of the shooting.Less than 24 hours after the murder, Captain Jason Smith of the Philadelphia Police Department's Homicide Unit said investigators believe Ruley was "completely innocent." MORE LOCAL HEADLINES"It sounds like the firearm possibly has a switch attached to it which would render it fully automatic," Smith told reporters about the shooter who is still being sought by police. Sharmaine Rush, Ruley's sister-in-law, spoke to FOX 29 on Monday and described the immeasurable impact that his death will have on his seven young children. "He was their hero, every last one of them, from the little one to the big one," Rush said. VAN HORN, Texas - Space tourism company Blue Origin had an unexpected test of its rocket’s in-flight abort system during a Monday morning launch, though no people were onboard at the time.The New Shepherd rocket blasted off from west Texas just before 9:30 a.m., carrying a capsule full of experiments on what was supposed to be a 10-minute ride to the edge of space and back. PHILADELPHIA - A teenage boy is being held responsible for the shooting of a 19-year-old at a busy SEPTA station in Philadelphia this summer, according to the District Attorney's Office.Police say the victim was shot in the chest, stomach and hand at the 15th Street Station under City Hall on July 14. He reportedly fought for his life for 13 days.Officials say the incident began after a 14-year-old suspect boarded a train at the 69th Street Station with a loaded 9mm gun. Both the suspect and victim reportedly got into an argument and drew guns when exiting the train. Officials say the suspect then shot the victim at close range and escaped in the chaos of running passengers.

PHILADELPHIA - A teenager has been arrested and charged in connection with the fatal shooting of a Philadelphia parks and rec employee, the Philadelphia District Attorney announced. According to authorities, Tiffany Fletcher, 40, was preparing to welcome students to the Mill Creek Recreation Center after school when she got stuck in the crossfire of a shootout between two groups on Friday. PREVIOUS: Philadelphia rec center worker shot and killed, 14-year-old in custody, police sayPolice released new details about the investigation in Da Larry Krasner's weekly gun crimes press conference. Officials say 16th District officers heard gunshots in the area of the 4700 block of Brown Street Friday afternoon, around 1:30 p.m.Responding officers saw people running and officers chased and arrested a 14-year-old man on Perry Street, Commissioner Danielle Outlaw announced. A detective later recovered a 9mm ghost gun loaded with one round in the chamber and one round in the magazine from a trash can on Perry Street, according to officials. As the teen was arrested, other officers located Fletcher suffering from gunshot wounds to both sides of her body on Brown Street. Outlaw says after being shot, Fletcher ran to a nearby business, where they tried to tend to her wounds. Fletcher was transported to Presbyterian Hospital, where she died from her injuries, authorities said. Police say she was outside of the recreation center when she was caught in the crossfire between the 14-year-old and at least one other person.

Manitoba announces first groups eligible for bivalent COVID vaccine To get the bivalent vaccine, Manitobans must have completed their primary two doses of vaccine, and it’s recommended that you wait six months since a previous dose of vaccine (or a COVID infection).Appointments can be made through the online booking tool.The province has said it expects to be able to expand eligibility for the bivalent vaccine to all adult Manitobans in the coming weeks.Monday also marks the date when anyone aged 12 and older is eligible to receive a booster of the original vaccine if they want one.

PHILADELPHIA - Investigators with the Philadelphia Police Department are working on learning more about a shooting that left a man in critical condition.  Chief Inspector Scott Small says officers with the 8th District received a 911 call for a report of a shooting victim at Frankford Avenue and Academy Road around 11:45 p.m.

PHILADELPHIA - Officers with the Philadelphia Police Department's Shooting Investigation Group are investigating a double shooting in Mayfair. According to police, officers received a 9011 call reporting gunshots at Charles Street and Magee Avenue early Thursday morning. Officials say officers found a crime scene with six shell casings on the sidewalk, but no victims were present. Police were later notified that two men showed up at Frankford Hospital with injuries, authorities say. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESAccording to Chief Inspector Scott Small, a 31-year-old man was shot in the face and a 29-year-old man was shot in his back. Both men were transported to trauma hospitals, where they are in critical condition. Police did not release any additional information and said they are checking cameras in the area. 

PHILADELPHIA - The Philadelphia Police Department is investigating a dog attack that left two people in the hospital early Thursday morning. Authorities say 25th District officers responded to the area of N 5th Street and W Venango Street just after 1 a.m. for reports of a person down. Chief Inspector Scott Small says responding officers arrived on scene and encountered a man who was being bitten by a pit bull mix. According to police, he was bleeding from various wounds to his head, neck, body, arms and legs. Small says the dog was biting on the man's arm as his family members used a bat to try to get the animal to release the man. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESAn officer discharged his weapon, shooting the dog in the side, causing it to let the man go, Small says. Police transported the man to the hospital, where he is in critical condition from his injuries, according to officials. The man's wife was also suffering from a dog bite wound to her leg, according to Small. Authorities say medics transported her to Temple University Hospital, where she is in stable condition. Small says the SPCA and Philadelphia Animal Control were called in to investigate.Police did not provide an update on the status of the dog's injuries. Police say a pit bull mix has been shot by police after it attacked its owners in Hunting Park, leaving a man in critical condition and a woman in stable condition.

PHILADELPHIA - Homicide Detectives with the Philadelphia Police Department are investigating a fatal shooting in Powelton. According to authorities, officers received calls about a shooting on the 4000 block of Lancaster Avenue on Wednesday night. When officers arrived on scene, they found a 19-year-old with a gunshot wound to the neck, police say. Officials say the man was pronounced dead at 10: 26 p.m.MORE LOCAL HEADLINESAccording to police, at least seven spent shell casings were found on scene. Chief Inspector Scott Small says police do not yet have a motive and they will be checking surveillance cameras in the area. 

PHILADELPHIA - Investigators with the Philadelphia Police Department's shooting Investigation Group are looking into a quadruple shooting that left teenagers injured in North Philadelphia on Wednesday night. According to police, the shooting happened just before 11:30 p.m. when officers responded to calls for a shooting on the 2800 block of Bonsall Street. Chief Inspector Scott Small says officers arrived on scene and found four gunshot victims who were between the ages of 15 and 18. According to Small, a 15-year-old girl was shot in the back and the leg, while a 16-year-old girl and 18-year-old female were also shot in the leg. Four teenagers were shot at a birthday party in North Philadelphia on Wednesday night, according to police.

PHILADELPHIA - A block captain who confronted catalytic converter thieves was shot by the group in East Germantown on Wednesday morning, according to police. Authorities say three suspects were in the process of stealing a catalytic converter from a van on West Pomona Street when they were confronted by the van's owner and the block captain. The block captain then followed the three suspects as they fled to Germantown Avenue, where he was then shot by one of the suspects in the chest, police say. According to police, the man was transported to Einstein Medical Center for treatment. Chief Inspector Scott Small says the man is in critical condition but expected to survive. RELATED HEADLINESA neighbor told officers that her catalytic converter was also stolen from West Pomona Street over the weekend, according to Small. Investigators say they will work to determine if this incident is related to a pattern of catalytic converter thefts in the area. Small says the incident was captured on multiple private cameras. According to authorities, the group was last seen in a grey or silver sedan that went south on Germantown Avenue.  This is a developing story.

PHILADELPHIA - The Philadelphia Police Department has launched an investigation after a woman was struck by a car and left in the street in Lawncrest. According to police, the incident occurred around 11:45 p.m. on Monday night. The woman, 31, was struck by a vehicle while crossing the 5700 block of Rising Sun Avenue, authorities say. Chief Inspector Scott Small says when police and medics arrived on scene, they found her face down and bleeding with face trauma and a broken arm. Medics rushed her to the hospital and she is expected to survive, according to officials. Witnesses told investigators that the car was moving so fast that they could not tell the model or color of the vehicle, Small says. According to police, the woman was walking to her car to get dog training pads from her parked car when she was struck. The dog training pads could be seen spread out in the street after the woman was struck and one of her sneakers remained in the road, police say. Police say the woman was crossing the street to get dog training pads when she was struck by a speeding vehicle.
