UEFA to pay European clubs £60m funds over stars released for international competitions

UEFA has made funds of almost €70m (£60m) available to clubs across Europe who release players for international competitions.

The move came following a Uefa meeting with all 55 member associations via video conference call today. The executive committee decided to release the club benefit payments related to the clubs' contribution to UEFA national team competitions in light of the current COVID-19 crisis and the financial difficulties some of them are now facing.

The payments were originally scheduled to be released on completion of the Euro 2020 qualifying play-offs, but these were postponed last month due to the on-going coronavirus pandemic.
