UK coronavirus death toll rises by 708 to 4,313

The UK's coronavirus death toll has risen by 708 to 4,313, it has been announced. The tragic figure was released this afternoon by the Department for Health and Social care.

Yesterday there were 3,605 confirmed deaths linked to the killer bug, which has claimed more than 50,000 lives worldwide. The total number of coronavirus cases in the UK now totals 41,903.

Earlier today government advisor Professor Neil Ferguson said the current lockdown could be over by the end of May - but also warned there could be 'weeks' of new infections if people ignore social distancing rules to bask in the sunshine this weekend.
