The number of people who have died in hospital in the UK after contracting coronavirus has risen by 888. The death toll in Britain has jumped by to 15,464 in the previous 24 hours - up from 14,576 on Friday.
The Department of Health also said as of 9am 18 April, 460,437 tests have concluded, with 21,389 tests on 17 April. Of these, 357,023 people have been tested of which 114,217 tested positive.
This is up 108,692 from yesterday. Figures published by NHS England show that April 8 currently has the highest total for the most hospital deaths occurring on a single day – 792 – although this could change in future updates.
