UK coronavirus death toll rises by 315 in 24 hours - nearly 28,500 lives have now been lost

The number of people who have died in the UK after contracting  coronavirus  now stands at 28,446. The death toll is up by 315 from 28,131 at the same point yesterday (Saturday), according to the latest update from the Department of Health.

A total of 1,206,405 people have now been tested. Some 76,496 tests were carried in out in the UK yesterday. The daily death toll now includes people who have died in hospitals, care homes and the wider community after the government changed the way they reported figures earlier this week.

NHS England announced 327 new deaths today, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 21,180.
