The latest evidence on whether or not you can have coronavirus without showing symptoms was shared in today’s government press briefing from Downing Street.
Monday’s conference was led by Health Secretary Matt Hancock, who said that people spreading Covid-19 without exhibiting symptoms is “one of the central facts” of why the pandemic was so challenging.
He was joined by England’s Deputy Chief Medical Officer, Jonathan Van-Tam, who confirmed that there is now clear scientific data that shows a proportion of patients ‘begin to shed the virus before the onset of symptoms’.
But he insisted that the 'vast majority' of the spread comes from those with clear signs and that the numbers of asymptomatic patients were small.
