UK coronavirus death toll up by 428 in past 24 hours

A total of 33,614 people have now died in the UK after testing positive for coronavirus, according to the Department of Health.

The death toll is up by 428 from 33,186 at the same point on Wednesday. The total number of confirmed cases of coronavirus is now up to 233,151 - a rise of 3,446 from 229,705 at the same point yesterday.

More than 1.5 million people have been tested for the virus and a total of 126,064 tests were carried out yesterday, the latest figures reveal.

NHS England has announced 207 new deaths of people who tested positive for Covid-19, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 24,159.
