Unemployment in West Bengal increased 10.5 pct points, rose to 17.4% in Apr 2020: CMIE Survey

Unemployment in West Bengal less than than national unemployment rate of 23.5% West Bengal's unemployment rate increased 10.5 percentage points, rising to 17.4% in Apr 2020, according to a survey conducted by the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE).

Over a longer time period, unemployment has moved from 4.6% in Oct 2016 to its current rate. Unemployment in West Bengal was less than than the national rate of 23.5%.

Nationwide, unemployment was highest in Tamil Nadu, Jharkhand, and Bihar at 49.8%, 47.1%, and 46.6% respectively. It was lowest in Punjab, Chhattisgarh, and Telangana at 2.9%, 3.4%, and 6.2% respectively.
