Union seeks clarity on funding for transport services

The National Bus and Rail Union has called for immediate clarity on funding for transport services, following reports the CIÉ could run out of cash by next month.

The three State-owned transport companies - Bus Éireann, Dublin Bus and Irish Rail - have experienced an unprecedented collapse of up to 90% in passenger numbers and fare revenue due to the Covid-19 virus.

According to the Irish Times, the CIÉ board has notified the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport Shane Ross of its very serious financial position.
