US Navy deploying hospital ships to assist Covid-19 fight

The US Navy is deploying hospital ships as part of the country's fight against the Covid-19 pandemic. The ships will act as referral hospitals for non-Covid-19 patients who have been admitted to regular, shore-based hospitals.

This will allow these hospitals to focus on patients with Covid-19. One of the ships, the USNS Comfort is due to sail from Virgina to New York at the weekend.

US President Donald Trump, who has been holed up in the White House for nearly two and a half weeks as political rallies and other trips were canceled, said he planned to visit Norfolk, Virginia tomorrow to send off the hospital ship.
