A male befriending project to reduce isolation and related alcohol abuse has been awarded almost £4000.The scheme was set up by West Dunbartonshire Community and Volunteering Services (WDCVS) and has been awarded continuation funding from the Scotch Whisky Action Fund (SWAF).It was piloted from December 2018 thanks to funding from SWAF after WDCVS spotted a trend of befriending referrals for older men who had recently experienced isolation or loss through bereavement or the loss of a job.A number were reporting concerns around their levels of drinking due to loneliness and isolation.Out of this, the Men Befriending project was born, with an initial cohort of 28 coming together to take part in 10-week group sessions.Social activities forged
