WHSmith has said it could axe up to 1,500 jobs as the pandemic continues to push down the number of customers going into its stores.
The book chain said redundancies are likely as it prepares to close stores due to lower footfall and passengers amid the ongoing coronavirus crisis.
The proposals which could impact high street stores, as well as smaller train stain outlets, come due to a fall in customers.
The 200-year-old company said it expects a loss of between £70million £75million this year as a result of the crisis. WHSmith said its restructuring plans will see 1,500 jobs go across the business, with proposals expected to cost the company between £15million and £19million.
