A scientific adviser to the government has explained why plans to ease lockdown will allow people to do unessential shopping before they can visit their families.
At today's daily press briefing, led by health secretary Matt Hancock, Professor John Newton, director of health improvement for Public Health England, was asked why people would be allowed back into schools and shops before being allowed into another household.
Ellie from Kent asked: "If people can start to shop for un-essential items and kids can go back to school when we don't know where those people have been, why can't we visit another household who we know have been self-isolating such as grandparents and partners?"
