British Prime Minister Boris Johnson remains in intensive care after his coronavirus symptoms worsened, prompting messages of support from political friends and foes in Britain and abroad.
Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab - Mr Johnson's de facto deputy - was immediately appointed to take over his duties "where necessary", Downing Street said.
Mr Raab's first job today will be chairing the daily emergency coronavirus meeting with cabinet ministers and the chief medical officer and scientific adviser.
