PHILADELPHIA - A Philadelphia City Councilmember went door-to-door Monday to help reassure safety in the community following a vicious ambush assault and robbery that was caught on camera.Police say a 30-year-old woman was walking down Addison Street around 7:10 p.m. when she was approached from behind by four male suspects believed to be in their teens.Surveillance video of the incident shows one of the suspects running up behind the woman at a high rate of speed, hitting her in the back, knocking her to the ground. The four suspects then started to kick and stomp on the woman while demanding she hand over her belongings. Police say the suspects took her belongings and ran off.

PHILADELPHIA - Philadelphia police are investigating a shooting that left a man dead near Temple University's campus Monday night.Around 6:20 p.m., police responded to the 1200 block of West Venago Street for reports that someone had been shot.When officers arrived, they found a 23-year-old in the driver's seat of a crashed car who had been shot two times in the arm, two times in the chest, and one time in the back. Police say the victim was transported to Temple Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 6:36 p.m. No weapons were recovered, and no arrests were immediately reported, according to police. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Philadelphia Police Department.

MANASQUAN, N.J. - Officials in New Jersey are investigating the death of another whale after they say one washed up on Manasquan's inlet beach on Monday. Police say they are unsure of what kind of whale it is, but they guess it's a calf, roughly 65 feet long. Authorities say they are pulling the whale out to more shallow water with hopes it doesn't get caught in the rocks. They say they do not have an exact time frame of when the whale will be removed, but it is expected that it will remain on the beach until Tuesday.The Marine Mammal Stranding Center, located in Brigantine, is volunteering with the investigation of the whale death, type, and cause of its arrival to shore. Police say they will not have any more information until the volunteers finish their investigation.

PHILADELPHIA - Former Philadelphia Eagles safety and team captain Chris Maragos was awarded over $40M in a medical malpractice lawsuit on Monday. It took a jury less than three hours of deliberations to decide to award Maragos $43.5M. They ruled that the surgeon, James Bradley and Rothman Orthopedic, committed "medical negligence" in caring for his knee surgery which lead to and early end to Maragos career. "I hope this decision sends a message to teams' medical staffs that players are people, not just contracts," Margos, now 36, said in a statement. "This case and this jury may have changed the course of history by now forcing these team doctors and trainers to stop worrying about when a player might return to play. and start thinking about the next 50 years of a player’s life."Maragos played eight seasons in the NFL from 2010-2017, including four years in Philadelphia.

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - Federal workplace safety authorities have fined a central Pennsylvania confectionary factory more than $14,500 following an accident last year in which two workers fell into a vat of chocolate.The Occupational Safety and Health Administration cited Mars Wrigley in the June accident at the Elizabethtown M&M/Mars factory, saying the workers were not authorized to work in the tanks and weren't trained on the proper safety procedures for the equipment.Officials said two workers employed by an outside contracting firm fell into the partially filled chocolate tank while doing maintenance work. Emergency responders were able to free the pair by cutting a hole in the bottom of the tank, officials said.

He was transported to a local hospital where he later died.Police interviewed the homeowner and the victim’s 13-year-old cousin who were also at the home.

CLAYMONT, Del. - Delaware State Police say they are investigating a shooting on I-95 that left two people injured early Monday morning in Claymont. Around 2:50 a.m., troopers responded to Wilmington Hospital where two men, ages 33 and 30, had shown up with gunshot wounds. According to investigators, the two victims were traveling southbound on I-95 in the area of Darley Road in a Nissan Altima along with a third person who was in the back seat. While driving, police say someone in an unknown vehicle in the right lane began shooting into the passenger side of the victim’s vehicle. MORE HEADLINES: The driver, 33, was struck once in the face. The 30-year-old passenger in the front seat was struck once in the upper torso. The  driver pulled over following the shooting and called police before getting back on the road and driving  to the Wilmington Emergency Room.Both victims were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.The Altima was found outside the emergency room with several bullet holes.

COLOMBO (News 1st) – The Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court is expected to deliver its ruling on bail for Wasantha Mudalige, the convener of the Inter-University Student's Federation. Wasantha Mudalige, the convener of the Inter-University Student's Federation, was escorted to the Colombo Chief Magistrate' Court on Tuesday (31) morning.Mudalige was arrested under the provisions of the Prevention of Terorrism Act, and remains in remand custody pending advice from the Attorney General. Activists from the Inter-University Student's Federation engaged in a silent protest opposite the Colombo Chief Magistrate' Court when IUSF Convener Wasantha Mudalige was escorted to the court. The Keselwatte Police had sought an order from court to prevent the silent protest from continuing, citing that it inconvenienced the public. However, Colombo Chief Magistrate Prasanna Alwis rejected the request and advised the police to act as per the powers vested with Sri Lanka Police if the protest was in fact an inconvenience to the public.
