Brits ignore coronavirus lockdown 'essential only' rules as man seen buying lava lamp

While the Government instructing people to stay at home – many Brits seem to be treating this unprecedented period as a giant Bank Holiday.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson told Brits not to leave their houses to lower the number of coronavirus infections and lighten the load on NHS resources.

But shoppers have instead flocked to DIY shops to stock up on paint and other decorating products to give their homes a spring clean and a makeover.

In Stockton-on-Tees, County Durham, customers were seen emerging from a branch of B&M with purchases as extravagant as lava lamps and doormats which would be hard to describe as “essentials”.
