Millions of Brits have stood in their front doors or come out on their balconies tonight to applaud the NHS coronavirus heroes.

In an uplifting display of national unity, from 8pm the grateful public filled the air with loud clapping as it was the turn of teachers, cleaners, supermarket workers and delivery drivers to be shown appreciation for the ultimate sacrifice they are preparing to make.

As the government faces criticism over its failure to protect NHS workers with coronavirus testing or personal protective equipment, the people of Britain are doing all they can to show our everyday heroes they are behind them.
