The leader of Bury council is to step down after less than a year in charge. Ex-police inspector Coun David Jones, who was appointed chief of the Labour-run town hall 10 months ago, will formally step aside next week.
Cabinet member Coun Eamonn O’Brien is set to take over following a meeting next Wednesday (May 20). Coun Jones, 64, said it was a 'demanding role' and felt the time was right to hand over the reins.
He said: “I took up the position quite quickly to fill a vacancy. "I’ve enjoyed it, it’s been great. But I think the timing’s right now with the emergency situation moving on to the next phase. “I had planned for some time to step down as leader, and the annual meeting is the appropriate time to do so. “We have faced unprecedented
