Children are at low risk of catching coronavirus or spreading it to adults, including the elderly, a systematic review of more than 47 studies has concluded.
As a result, re-opening schools is "unlikely" to spread the killer bug, according to scientists involved in the review at the Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the Karplinska Institute in Sweden said.
Professor Jonas Ludvigsson, who led the review, said: "The vast majority of children do not get very sick from Covid-19 and deaths are extremely rare. "So there's really no reason to close down schools and kindergartens to protect the children themselves."
