Costa Coffee has announced it will close its branches in the UK in response to the coronavirus pandemic. The popular coffee shop chain said the closures have come as the need for social distancing increases in response to the worsening COVID-19 pandemic.

It has announced it will close its doors when branches close at the normal time on Monday evening. This means more than 2,000 chains will shut tonight until further notice.

But despite the store closures, the company has said it will do its best to keep branches in hospitals open so it can continue to provide free coffee to NHS workers "who are at the forefront of this crisis".
