COLOMBO (News 1st); The Court of Appeal on Tuesday issued a writ order stating that the charges filed by the Attorney General against former Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake at the Colombo Permanent High Court Trial at Bar under the Public Property Act cannot be sustained.Two cases were filed against Karunanayake alleging criminal misappropriation of public funds at two bond auctions conducted by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka on the 29th & 31st of March 2016.Two writ applications filed by Former Finance Minister Ravi Karunayake challenging the two cases filed with the Permanent High Court Trial-at-Bar were taken up on Tuesday (28), where Justices Sobhitha Rajakaruna and Dhammika Ganepola issued a writ order.These cases were filed against Ravi Karunanayake and 10 others over the alleged criminal misappropriation of public funds to the tune of over Rs. 50 Billion  at two bond auctions conducted by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka on the 29th & 31st of March 2016.On the 4th of March 2022, the Colombo Permanent High Court Trial-at-Bar ordered to release Ex-Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake and 10 other accused from the charge filed under the Public Property Act in the 2nd Bond Scam Case of 2016.However, the former Minister appealed to the Court of Appeal on the charges levelled against him, claiming that they were filed illegally and thereby cannot be maintained.

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Samagi Jana Balavegaya is preparing to protest in Colombo on Monday (20) afternoon, citing government attempts to delay the election.The Colombo Chief Magistrate Prasanna Alwis rejected a request made by police to issue an order preventing the SJB-led protest from entering several roads within the Cinnamon Gardens police jurisdiction.The Cinnamon Gardens Police made the request from the court citing that offices, residences, schools, and foreign missions are located in the said area and the protests could inconvenience the public visiting those places.The Chief Magistrate noted that if the protestors are conducting themselves in a manner that causes inconvenience to the public, police can use necessary force to prevent those events from taking place and a court order is not necessary.Thereby, the request was turned down.

(Lexington County Sheriff's Office) A South Carolina woman was shot and killed in a grocery store parking lot after an altercation with a stranger on Valentine's Day.Tyler Borys said his wife, 26-year-old Alexandria Cress Borys, was loading groceries into her car at the Kroger in Irmo, South Carolina, when she got into an argument with a woman she didn't know, according to FOX 57 Columbia.After the argument was over, the stranger, later identified by Irmo police as 23-year-old Christina Harrison, allegedly pulled out a gun and shot Borys in the back.

KENSINGTON - Philadelphia police are looking for a suspect they say abducted a young woman, at gunpoint, and fled with her in a golf cart.Officials say the incident happened Saturday morning, just after 6:30, on the 2500 block of Aramingo Avenue, in Philadelphia’s Kensington neighborhood.According to authorities, the victim was walking east on Cumberland Street toward Aramingo Avenue, while the suspect appeared to be following her, in a maroon and black Polaris Northstar XP 1000 two-seat golf cart.He pulled into a bank parking lot on the 2500 block of Aramingo and fired a weapon one time, the bullet hitting the asphalt of the lot.At that point, officials say, a witness told police the man crossed over Aramingo into the Wawa and Applebee’s parking lot, got out of the golf cart, pulled out a gun, pointed the gun at the woman, grabbed her and shoved her into the golf cart.Then he drove off in the golf cart, with the woman, heading west on Cumberland.The victim is a woman in her late 20s or early 30s, wearing a light-colored jacket, a dark shirt, black jeans with a white design on the left leg.
