New Delhi: India has seen a dip in coronavirus infections, with 159 new cases reported in the last 24 hours, pulling down active caseload to 3,193, the Union health ministry said in an update on Monday.
Death toll, since the onset of the pandemic in 2020, rose to 531,882. Health experts have observed a decline in hospital admissions as fewer cases of Covid-19 are being reported.
However, the elderly or those with underlying health conditions remain at risk of contracting the virus. Hence, doctors advise completing vaccine schedule and adhering to covid-appropriate behaviour.
The XBB.1.16 variant was behind the surge in the last few months. Scientists say that Indians have developed hybrid immunity, helped by vaccination and natural infection, which is responsible for fewer hospitalisations.
