A double killer has become the second Scottish prisoner to die of suspected Covid-19. Francis McCarthy, 59, was jailed for life in 1985 for the cold-blooded murder of 26-year-old Thomas McKirdy in Paisley.
The thug had been released early after stabbing 18-year-old victim Thomas Mellon to death and was recalled to prison twice before dying behind bars.
A source told the Record the HMP Low Moss prisoner’s death is the second to be linked to coronavirus in Scottish jails. It comes a week after serial sex offender John Angus, 66, became the first Scottish prisoner to die after contracting the virus.
Evil McCarthy was just 16 when killed his first victim as he was walking to shops in Paisley, stabbing him through the heart with a pen-knife
