Thousands of furloughed workers face massive uncertainty after Chancellor Rishi Sunak announced that government support will end in October.The Tory chancellor said companies would have to begin to take some of the burden of paying 80 per cent of the wages of 8.4 million workers currently at home because of economic lockdown caused by coronavirus.From August, the level of government grants provided through the job retention scheme will be slowly tapered to reflect that people will be returning to work.
