Further rise in numbers with Covid-19 in hospitals

The number of people with Covid-19 in hospital has risen again, and is at its highest level in more than 13 months. As of this morning, there were 1,081 people with the virus in hospitals, up 34 on the same time yesterday.

Of these, 42 were in intensive care units. Around half of the hospital cases are described as "incidental", meaning patients happen to have tested positive on admission, but are in hospital for something else.

Yesterday, there were 6,284 PCR-confirmed cases of Covid-19, while 9,735 people registered a positive antigen test through the HSE portal. Latest coronavirus stories
