Gyms to 'stay shut until August' despite lockdown rules being relaxed next week

Gyms have been ordered to "stay shut until at least autumn" despite news of Prime Minister Boris Johnson's announcement of a relaxed coronavirus lockdown from next week.

Government officials reportedly deem gyms one of the worst places for spreading the life-threatening bug, reports The Sun. Although the easing of restrictions will see friends and family being able to enjoy picnics and outdoor spaces, as well as unlimited exercise – gyms have been grouped with pubs and restaurants and will be one of the last places to open.

Some government sources even believe gyms won't be open at all this year, according to The Sun. Gyms, pubs and restaurants have been labelled as "hotbeds of infection," which make reopening in the next six months
