A healthcare assistant at a Dublin Hospital died from Covid-19 on Christmas Eve, a week after contracting the virus. Mariter Tarugo, aged 60, worked at St Vincent's Hospital in Dublin.

Originally from the Philippines, Mariter lived in Dalkey in Dublin and is survived by her husband, daughter and two grandchildren.

In a statement, the Philippine Consulate Dublin said it sent their "heartfelt condolences" to her family and described her as a "wonderful and gentle soul". "We offer her daughter Nice, husband Nicolas, and grandchildren Axl and Arabella our thoughts and prayers during this dark time in their lives."
