NORTH WILDWOOD, N.J. - Erosion from an early May storm is keeping some beaches in North Wildwood closed on the eve of the unofficial start of summer. FOX 29's Shaynah Ferreira visited North Wildwood Friday morning as crews continued working onshore. North Wildwood Mayor Patrick Rosenello says out of the town's 30 guarded beaches, about eight or nine of them will not be ready to open Memorial Day weekend. Rosenello also says crews are about two weeks behind schedule due to the nor'easter that moved through the area on Mother's Day. He is also urging people who see sand piles to stay away from them because they could be unstable. Areas between 10th Street and 19th Street have been impacted by the delays, but the mayor recommends visitors go to beaches north or south of those affected areas. Rosenello says North Wildwood is looking forward to summer and the community is ready to welcome visitors back for sand and fun.Advertisement"This is definitely the first normal summer season since 2019," he said.

WASHINGTON - The Federal Reserve intensified its fight against the worst inflation in 40 years by raising its benchmark short-term interest rate by a half-percentage point Wednesday — its most aggressive move since 2000 — and signaling further large rate hikes to come.The increase in the Fed's key rate raised it to a range of 0.75% to 1%, the highest point since the pandemic struck two years ago.The Fed also announced that it will start reducing its huge $9 trillion balance sheet, which consists mainly of Treasury and mortgage bonds. Starting in 2023, Pennsylvania residents will need a REAL ID to board a flight or access certain facilities.  PHILADELPHIA - Pennsylvanians who want to travel will soon need a little gold star on their diver's license in order to do so. The star, located in the upper right corner of Pennsylvania driver's licenses, indicates that the driver's license is a REAL ID, which is a credential that Pennsylvania residents will need to have in 2023.Transportation Security Administration (TSA) says REAL ID's will be required starting May 3, 2023 and residents will have the option to upgrade to a REAL ID at the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) office. A standard license will not be valid to board a flight or access a secure federal building, like a military base or certain federal offices, according to PennDOT officials. "Although a year seems like a long time to get ready, the deadline will be upon us before you know it," says PennDOT Executive Deputy Secretary, Melissa Batula.

PHILADELPHIA - The former Philadelphia police officer who fatally shot 12-year-old TJ Siderio in South Philadelphia has been charged with murder, District Attorney Larry Krasner announced Monday. According to Krasner, former officer Edsaul Mendoza is facing multiple charges including first-degree murder, third-degree murder and voluntary manslaughter in connection with the fatal shooting. Mendoza is in custody and being held without bail, Krasner said during a Monday morning press conference, adding that no bail is normal for the seriousness of the charges. Police say four plainclothes officers in an unmarked car were patrolling the area near the 1700 block of Barbara Street around 7 p.m. on March 1 when they spotted two juveniles on bikes. According to investigators, officers noticed that one of the juveniles was armed with a handgun and turned on the emergency lights to confront him.
