Khabib Nurmagomedov has been crowned the BBC’s world sport star of the year after an emotional 2020 for the UFC superstar. The public voted for lightweight champion ahead of stiff competition from the likes of NBA’s LeBron James, golfer Dustin Johnson and boxer Katie Taylor.Pole-vaulter Armand Duplantis and footballer Wendie Renard were also in the running for the accolade.But Khabib, 32, saw off his rivals in the vote via BBC Sport’s official website.The Russian martial arts fighter clinched his 29th professional victory in the Octagon earlier this year.He beat interim champion Justin Gaethje back in October before immediately retiring from the sport afterwards.Khabib has gone his entire pro career without losing a fight, and the showdown.
