Out-of-contract footballers in England are free to ignore FIFA proposals and walk away from clubs at the end of June, a leading sports lawyer has claimed.

The coronavirus pandemic has brought the 2019/20 campaign to a standstill, with all English football suspended indefinitely amid the global crisis.

It is believed Premier League chiefs are eyeing up a potential return in July and have even considered playing the last remaining matches in World Cup style camps behind closed doors.

But the season spilling over into the summer also makes things tricky for a number of players who are set to become free agents on June 30.
